Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES)
Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) is a diagnostic procedure used to assess swallowing function and detect aspiration. A thin flexible endoscope is passed through the nose to visualize the throat while the patient swallows different food consistencies.
It is commonly indicated in patients with dysphagia, neurological disorders, post-stroke evaluation, and voice or airway concerns. The test provides real-time assessment of pharyngeal function, secretion management, and airway protection.
FEES in an outpatient procedure, is well tolerated, and plays a key role in guiding dietary modifications and rehabilitation strategies.
